ME-VID EVALUATION

ME-VID EVALUATION

Pre-production skills
During Pre-production I planned my shooting script for my Me-vid production. During that time I have learnt how to make, plan and type a script and how long a shooting script should be.

What I did to include from the script was for example I started it off by doing an opening mid-shot of myself in my room then I did a graphic of my name titled Ramo in 2 minutes on the mac pc. I chose the song my name is because it ties in well when I'm introducing myself in the beginning of the video.

Production skills
During the Production there were shots that I had to either cut out from the script or improvise. For example I couldn't interview myself in my front room because people where using it. so instead I interviewed myself in my bedroom

I had to also improvise my graffiti shot because I ran out of time. Instead I behind a normal wall, inside a tunnel near my neighborhood.

During that time I learnt how to use different shots for example like a mid-shot while filming and how many seconds a shot or a clip should last e.g this shot above lasts 15 seconds

 Post-production skills
During Post production I learnt how to edit and shorten video clips. I learnt how to use final cut express, how to sequence and render a clip and I also learnt how to use an image as a background for a green screen.

I also learnt how to make a title graphic and how to paste it on a shot. What I found easy was the Pre-production because all I had to do was plan and type my script which I found simple to do and what I found hard was the post production because the part where I had to make the text graphics was hard at first but in the end I got the hang of it.

The Encounter final

EDIT EVALUATION

How did you use the 180 degree rule, rule of thirds and match on action ?

I used 180 degree rule me and Rashaan were doing a shot reverse shot of us talking in the bathroom it showed the 180 degree rule and a match on action of Rashaan opening the door before we have our conversation.

The rule of thirds is where a person's eyes is on third angle of the camera

180 degree rule is where the camera is 180 degrees from the person’s straight up shot.

Shot reverse shot is where it looks like one person is from the opposite side is having a conversation with the other person

and match on action is where one shot continues with the over shot. For example Rashaan pushes the door open and the shot shows him opening the door on the other side.
  • What challenges did you face during the production  and what you change if you were to film again ?

The challenges I faced during this production were keeping the camera still while my partner was walking through the hallway. The only thing I would change to this video is to add a shot with my partner walking away in the bathroom because it would show him leaving the bathroom and me following after him.
  • What challenges did you face during the post-production and what would you change if you were to edit again ?

During the post production I found the clip trimming a challenge at first but I got used to it by the end but the sound trimming I found most challenging because I couldn't get the sound between the shots I managed to get the sound between the shot by trimming it with the clip trimmer in me-vid.

what are the overall strengths of your work ?
  • Why are they the strengths of your creativity, planning, research, digital technology and post production?

The strengths of my work were mostly the storyboards because it shows the creativity and the planing of my story. I went in to me-vid and edited the shots to make it look like my storyboard by trimming and shots then added in the sound and the music I was going to use.
  • What are the overall weaknesses of you work, why are they the strengths of your creativity, planing, research, digital technology and post production ?

the only weakness I faced during this production was my organisation of time management.

What overall improvements would you make to your work and why ?

I would make the video more snappy because some of the shots I did needed more work and there shots I forgot to include for example i didn't film Rashaan walking out the bathroom.

Storyboard

Explanation of my idea

My idea was based on a character names Ramo, who was played by myself, getting ready for a rap battle. It starts of with me preparing and free-styling to myself in the bathroom then my partner, Shanizzle, walks in and tells me that the audience is calling me back. Then the scene cuts to black and I walk out the room. I chose this idea because I am a big fan of Eminem and it reminded me of the film '8 Mile'.

In the first shot I'm doing a close up shot I chose this close up because it looked like I was staring straight ahead in the mirror and I wanted the audience to see my face. When the scene cuts to black it shows that I have my eyes closed while my hood is down and I visualize the cheering crowd. Afterwards I look up at the camera and straight ahead then show my game face. In the long shot my partner Shanizzle, walks through the corridor to the bathroom in this close up shot he pushes the door open then the scene cuts to the door opening on the other side. I chose this shot because it shows him opening the door other side and it shows match on action.

In this shot I'm doing a long shot of me free-styling to myself before Sharnizzle comes in and tells me that the audience is calling me back. We chose an over the shoulder shot because it shows the 180 degree rule and the shot reverse shot while me and my partner having a conversation before we leave bathroom. Afterwards the scene fades to black and the scene ends with me walking away.

planing for the encounter

planing for the encounter

This week i learn't about cutting, editing and the different rules of filming for example transitions. A transition is how you edit from a shot to the other, I also learn't that fade to black, dissolve and cross fade could be used at the beginning of a scene or at the end, I learn't that  match on action is where you have two pieces of footage that flow from one shot to the other. I learn't about shot reverse shot  where we see A's point of view and then you cut to person B's point of view this makes sure you
have talking space and the 180 degree rule. The camera starts shooting from the left side and then continues shooting from the same side. I learn't the establishing shot is the setting of the scene, mid shot is where they are showing half of the body. A close up is a shot is where we see detail and a extreme close up shot is where there showing more detail. A high angle shot, low angle and a canted angle shot is where the camera is not straight a tilt movement only goes up and down, pan goes from left to right and tracking is where the camera follows you. This week i came up with a story board of myself staring at the camera which is supposed to be me looking in the mirror in a bathroom free-styling and preparing myself for a rap battle right before Rashaan walks through hallway to the bathroom door and opens it. This is a story board idea I planned with my brother Rashaan.

my media summer

my media summer

FILMS

during summer the film i watched was panther i found the film moving and sad but interesting this film based on how the panthers came to be during the civil rights movement and how the black panther party (which was used for self-defense) started in the 1960s. i found this film interesting because during the time i was watching this i wrote notes about what was happening from the film the reason why i wrote the information about the panther film because i have always been interested into learning about  the black panther and the black history for quite some time now.

MUSIC

one of the songs i listened to over the summer was a song called guts over fear by eminem the song is about how he's writing about almost the same thing in his songs, about how he came up in the rap game , how far his drug problem took him because of the loss of his best friend, how he was shy and then became confident, how people can relate to his struggle and how successful he became with his music this song opened up to me because it tort me how having guts was the opposite of having fear and reminded me what it felt like to be a shy person and to become confident.

PROGRAMME

the programme i watched earlier in the summer was the boondocks i started watching it when i was in year 9 and i found the show funny while i was watching the episodes. some of the episodes had their own ideas from different movies like in the shinin episode there were sences similar to friday the questioning sence from the thank you for not snitching episode was from menace to society and in the block is hot episode were Huey throws a trash can at the lemonade stand was from do the right thing i reconised this because i secne all three of these films before i thought season 1,2,3 and 4 was funny but when season 4 was coming out i thought it wasn't going to as funny as the earlier seasons in a way i was right because some of the episodes from season 4 were not as funny as the earlier work but still i find this is one of my favorite tv shows and still watch it today.

WEBSITE

the website i went on over the summer was Ali tomineek. The website shows his home page, his bio story, his music, his press, shop, contact and cart i was searching the internet one evening and then i can across one of his videos started watching it i was a bit surprised to see a rapper at the age of 14 being able to rap that fast because i was starting to rap at that time and at that time i was the same age as him ever since then i always liked his music and post a video of one of my rap on internet and tell him good i thought his raps where and how he was one of the youngest rappers to inspire me not just to rap fast but to continue thinking while speaking positive message through my songs.

STORY ON THE NEWS

the story i saw on the news over the summer was the malisa airline plane crash in july 2014 i remember seeing the story on the news that the plane was shot down and i was shocked to see the destruction the plane crash caused. i'm glad some surrved but what i most felt sorry for about the crash was for all of the 289 pasengers that lost there lifes and for all the people that lost their love ones on to this day i wonder why did these people shoot the plane down that day, how did they manage to shoot it down and for what reason.
