ME-VID EVALUATION

ME-VID EVALUATION

Pre-production skills
During Pre-production I planned my shooting script for my Me-vid production. During that time I have learnt how to make, plan and type a script and how long a shooting script should be.

What I did to include from the script was for example I started it off by doing an opening mid-shot of myself in my room then I did a graphic of my name titled Ramo in 2 minutes on the mac pc. I chose the song my name is because it ties in well when I'm introducing myself in the beginning of the video.

Production skills
During the Production there were shots that I had to either cut out from the script or improvise. For example I couldn't interview myself in my front room because people where using it. so instead I interviewed myself in my bedroom

I had to also improvise my graffiti shot because I ran out of time. Instead I behind a normal wall, inside a tunnel near my neighborhood.

During that time I learnt how to use different shots for example like a mid-shot while filming and how many seconds a shot or a clip should last e.g this shot above lasts 15 seconds

 Post-production skills
During Post production I learnt how to edit and shorten video clips. I learnt how to use final cut express, how to sequence and render a clip and I also learnt how to use an image as a background for a green screen.

I also learnt how to make a title graphic and how to paste it on a shot. What I found easy was the Pre-production because all I had to do was plan and type my script which I found simple to do and what I found hard was the post production because the part where I had to make the text graphics was hard at first but in the end I got the hang of it.

The Encounter final

EDIT EVALUATION

How did you use the 180 degree rule, rule of thirds and match on action ?

I used 180 degree rule me and Rashaan were doing a shot reverse shot of us talking in the bathroom it showed the 180 degree rule and a match on action of Rashaan opening the door before we have our conversation.

The rule of thirds is where a person's eyes is on third angle of the camera

180 degree rule is where the camera is 180 degrees from the person’s straight up shot.

Shot reverse shot is where it looks like one person is from the opposite side is having a conversation with the other person

and match on action is where one shot continues with the over shot. For example Rashaan pushes the door open and the shot shows him opening the door on the other side.
  • What challenges did you face during the production  and what you change if you were to film again ?

The challenges I faced during this production were keeping the camera still while my partner was walking through the hallway. The only thing I would change to this video is to add a shot with my partner walking away in the bathroom because it would show him leaving the bathroom and me following after him.
  • What challenges did you face during the post-production and what would you change if you were to edit again ?

During the post production I found the clip trimming a challenge at first but I got used to it by the end but the sound trimming I found most challenging because I couldn't get the sound between the shots I managed to get the sound between the shot by trimming it with the clip trimmer in me-vid.

what are the overall strengths of your work ?
  • Why are they the strengths of your creativity, planning, research, digital technology and post production?

The strengths of my work were mostly the storyboards because it shows the creativity and the planing of my story. I went in to me-vid and edited the shots to make it look like my storyboard by trimming and shots then added in the sound and the music I was going to use.
  • What are the overall weaknesses of you work, why are they the strengths of your creativity, planing, research, digital technology and post production ?

the only weakness I faced during this production was my organisation of time management.

What overall improvements would you make to your work and why ?

I would make the video more snappy because some of the shots I did needed more work and there shots I forgot to include for example i didn't film Rashaan walking out the bathroom.

Storyboard

Explanation of my idea

My idea was based on a character names Ramo, who was played by myself, getting ready for a rap battle. It starts of with me preparing and free-styling to myself in the bathroom then my partner, Shanizzle, walks in and tells me that the audience is calling me back. Then the scene cuts to black and I walk out the room. I chose this idea because I am a big fan of Eminem and it reminded me of the film '8 Mile'.

In the first shot I'm doing a close up shot I chose this close up because it looked like I was staring straight ahead in the mirror and I wanted the audience to see my face. When the scene cuts to black it shows that I have my eyes closed while my hood is down and I visualize the cheering crowd. Afterwards I look up at the camera and straight ahead then show my game face. In the long shot my partner Shanizzle, walks through the corridor to the bathroom in this close up shot he pushes the door open then the scene cuts to the door opening on the other side. I chose this shot because it shows him opening the door other side and it shows match on action.

In this shot I'm doing a long shot of me free-styling to myself before Sharnizzle comes in and tells me that the audience is calling me back. We chose an over the shoulder shot because it shows the 180 degree rule and the shot reverse shot while me and my partner having a conversation before we leave bathroom. Afterwards the scene fades to black and the scene ends with me walking away.

planing for the encounter

planing for the encounter

This week i learn't about cutting, editing and the different rules of filming for example transitions. A transition is how you edit from a shot to the other, I also learn't that fade to black, dissolve and cross fade could be used at the beginning of a scene or at the end, I learn't that  match on action is where you have two pieces of footage that flow from one shot to the other. I learn't about shot reverse shot  where we see A's point of view and then you cut to person B's point of view this makes sure you
have talking space and the 180 degree rule. The camera starts shooting from the left side and then continues shooting from the same side. I learn't the establishing shot is the setting of the scene, mid shot is where they are showing half of the body. A close up is a shot is where we see detail and a extreme close up shot is where there showing more detail. A high angle shot, low angle and a canted angle shot is where the camera is not straight a tilt movement only goes up and down, pan goes from left to right and tracking is where the camera follows you. This week i came up with a story board of myself staring at the camera which is supposed to be me looking in the mirror in a bathroom free-styling and preparing myself for a rap battle right before Rashaan walks through hallway to the bathroom door and opens it. This is a story board idea I planned with my brother Rashaan.
